In 1988 Tamar Raban invited performance artists Anat Schen and the late Dan Zakheim to jointly produce an evening of performances in her studio at municipal Shelter No. 209 in Ramat Aviv. A successful first evening prompted the trio to continue their activity, and later on to establish the 209 Shelter for the Advancement of Interdisciplinary Art in Israel non profit organization.

Over a number of years, along with guest artists and partners, they created a series of interdisciplinary art events at the shelter and several other sites. In addition to their artistic activities, Schen, Raban and Zakheim taught and initiated interdisciplinary art lectures.

With Schen's departure, Raban and Zakheim continued the activity. The untimely death of Zakheim, marks the term and the collaborative activity manner which characterized it. In commemoration, his name was added to the association' name.

This chapter of the catalog reviews the artistic activity of the association in its early years.
